Green Mountain Shawl Knitalong

Credit: Marin Melchior

The 2022 Green Mountain Knitting Guild is thrilled to announce that this year’s Green Mountain Shawl will be Stitch Play by Marin Melchior.

Knit along with us and wear your shawl to the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival Oct 1 -2. We will take a group photo (time TBD) with Marin at the Guild’s booth. If you have already knit this and plan to be at the festival, please bring your finished shawl! We would love to see it!

Let’s showcase Vermont designers and yarn and have fun knitting.

Stitch Play requires 400 yards of fingering weight yarn, measures 42″ x 17″ and looks great in multiple colors of hand painted yarn. The pattern contains ideas for sizing up the shawl, as well.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Please feel free to join our weekly virtual knit nights to show off your progress or ask for help. Tag your projects on Instagram with #greenmountainshawl.

Fleece Project

Seven guild members have taken up the challenge to source Vermont fleece, have it processed into yarn by a Vermont mill, and knit garments in time for the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival in early October.

We sourced Dorset Horn fleece from Tamarack Vermont Sheep Farm, which raises Dorset Horn and Tunis breeds. Both breeds are considered heritage breeds.

In early April 2022, 35 pounds of fleece were skirted by members in the brisk spring air.
